Japanese Scooters
Mention the word scooter and visions of underpowered and noisy mopeds and Vespa's scuttling along in the road gutter immediately spring to mind. But over in Japan the humble scooter is quite a different animal. These are low and stretched pimped out street cruisers dressed in sleek mutant racing body fairings and sporting uprated finely tuned motors whispering into chromed exhausts, with wheel rims and steering more typically associated with custom hot rods. Disk brakes front and rear and seating designed to get you noticed. Of the scooters featured here some are made by well known manufacturers such as Honda, and some are hand built, and yet others are 50's/60's/70's originals - either way, just perfect for gliding around town in style on a clear day.
http://www.Bomex.jp is one web site with more info and pics about pic #2 below - yes they really do spell "Gallery" as "Garally" - so watch out for that typo and it is a flash site which might not be to everyone's tastes. Happy hunting.
EDITORS NOTE: While I wouldn't normally be seen dead driving (riding?) a typical scooter check out the all-black alien beast below - picture #8 - I have to admit that one just knocks me out. |
