The Milky Way Galaxy · Hidden Beauty
Step outside on any clear dark night and this is the beautiful scene that extends across the night sky before your very eyes - but wait - "I cannot see it", I hear you say - well this is true, although you cannot see it, it is there nonetheless. At best you might percieve a pale streak from which our galaxy gets it's name - The Milky Way.
So why can't you see it ? The first reason is light pollution from your neighbourhood or neighbouring towns and cities - the second reason is that the Milky Way is so huge and the distances so great that the amount of light reaching our eyes is very small and our eyes are simply not sensitive enough to percieve any details - and the third reason is that immense dust clouds obscure many of the brighter regions of the Milky Way - the center of our galaxy is there right before your eyes yet it is mostly invisible. But with the aid of cameras and long exposure times we are able to see this magnificent beauty in greater detail, and the center of our galaxy becomes clearly visible.
